It is my privilege to introduce you to our pioneering initiative to bring clinical psychological science closer to the people who need it most. At ICMH, we believe that mental health care, research and training should not exist in isolation — they must be woven into the fabric of our communities, meeting people where they are and making a tangible difference in their lives. This passion drives everything we do, and I am honored to be part of a team dedicated to alleviating the suffering caused by mental illness and improving access to care for those most in need.

ICMH is led by faculty from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, in collaboration with the Colleges of Arts and Sciences and Health Sciences. Our mission is to build vital connections between research and community mental health services, ensuring that the latest advances in clinical science translate into real-world care. We are particularly focused on training and providing science-based treatments and generating new knowledge to reduce the burden of mental illness on individuals and society.

The Institute is comprised of three interrelated entities, each playing a critical role in achieving our mission:

  • ICMH Clinic: Our clinic provides evidence-based psychotherapy and diagnostic services for individuals of all ages. It is not just a place for treatment — it is also a training ground for future mental health professionals, offering hands-on experiences for students at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. This ensures that the next generation of clinicians and researchers can develop, deliver and evaluate treatments grounded in the best science.
  • Center for Training, Evaluation, and Community Collaboration: C-TECC bridges the gap between academia and the community by collaborating with mental health agencies to implement and evaluate evidence-based practices. Through collaborative projects with community stakeholders, C-TECC helps us understand what treatments are effective and feasible in real-world settings, ensuring that our work has a lasting impact on the mental health system.
  • Master of Science in Clinical Psychological Science: Our M.S. program offers students a unique opportunity to be trained as clinicians who think like scientists — transforming clinical care into a synergistic relationship between research knowledge and practice. Students develop the skills necessary to address critical workforce shortages in mental healthcare while providing the highest-quality, evidence-based treatments available.

Together, these programs position ICMH as a national model for impactful mental health research, training, clinical care and community engagement. We invite you to explore our programs and initiatives further. Whether you are a faculty member, student, community partner, or someone seeking care, we are excited to partner with you in advancing a brighter, healthier future for our community and beyond.
